Savannah's coastal areas are known for having not only the largest lighthouse in Georgia, but it also hosts the smallest lighthouse in Georgia. Cockspur Island is home to the Cockspur Island Lighthouse and Fort Pulaski, one of Savannah's historic battlements..

While Fort Pulaski saw its most important interactions during the American Civil War, those were not it's only points of interest.  Since the mid 1700's, the newly arrived African American communities founded dwellings in these coastal areas.

In 1827, Cockspur Island was chosen to locate the new battlement.  Savannah's growing port required more fortifications, so ground was broken close to the mouth of the river to add more substantial defense.

Come immerse yourself in this experience.  It will take you on a journey through maritime, military, and Savannah history, with a presentation and Q&A given by the director of Fort Pulaski, as well as, time to wander and explore the Fort and surrounding area.  You will not be disappointed.

This tour includes your entrance fee to the park.
